There is a new Books and Breakfast for parents to bring their student for breakfast and to shop at Book Fair on May 11th from 7:00 to 7:40! We cannot believe that there are only five weeks of school left until summer! My little ones will soon be Second Graders! We have many End of the Year Activities happening so please check back regularly to help your child be prepared. Tuesday is our Field Trip to Warbington Farm! You child will need the following: A paper bag lunch (with no containers that need to be returned home) Disposable Water bottles Wear Tennis Shoes or another type of CLOSED shoe. No flip flops, sandals, or open shoes allowed. Optional: Wear sunscreen! (THIS HAS TO BE APPLIED AT HOME. We cannot have the sunscreen at school or apply it for your child.) Wear Insect Repellant! (THIS HAS TO BE APPLIED AT HOME. We cannot have insect repellant at school or apply it for your child.) Please! Please! Please! Have your child to school on time ! Buses are leaving at 8:45. From Ms. Hopen , Art Teacher: Please Save the Date! Our Annual Art Show will be taking place on Thursday 5/11 from 5:30-7:30 in the Gym. Each child will have a framed masterpiece on display. The cost of each frame is $25 (cash and personal checks only). Please make checks payable to New Prospect Elementary School. If you cannot attend the show, but would like to purchase your child’s art you may send your payment in ahead of time. I will send home pre-sales on 5/12. Please come learn about cultures from around the world. I hope everyone received their invitation to join us this Friday, at 10:00, in our classroom for our Poetry Reading! Your child has been working hard and will share his/her best poem. We will have refreshments and then head to lunch at 11:00. You may join your child for lunch of you would like as well. Please save and send in any toilet paper or paper towel rolls that you have! Our students will be making binoculars for our zoologist and botanist to use as a tool to observe. Our next field trip is April 25th to Zoo Atlanta! Please complete and return field trip form sent home last week by Thursday, March 23rd. Exact change or checks are only accepted. We are not able to issue change for overpayment. We have two chaperones and have space for one more parent to join us. Chaperones will need to pay $25.00, ride the bus, and be responsible for a group of five students. Let our CAT moms or me know if you are interested. With Jump Rope for Heart Money coming in daily, please be sure to send it in a labeled bag or envelop, with your child’s name on it. Valentine's Exchange: We will exchange Valentine's in class on February 14th. We currently have 19 students in our classroom. Please be sure to your child has a Valentine for every student in the classroom. It is highly encouraged that students write their own Valentines cards, rather than parents. Students may send in Valentines and/or individually wrapped candy if they wish. We do not have any listed food allergies in our class this year. Excitement is building as students finalize their Economics unit! Wednesday, December 21st: Author's Celebration and Winter Party. This will be a day full of fun and excitement for the students. We will invite Kindergarten students down to show off our All About books we've been working on. WE will end the day with our Winter Party. (Please note that parents are not able to attend unless you signed up as a volunteer for the party. Parking is limited.) Thursday, December 22nd: Last day of semester. We will be doing fun winter writing activities in the morning and first grade will be watching Polar Express at the end of the day. Please have your child wear pajamas to school. -Thursday, December 8th: Field Trip to LEGOLAND We will depart NP around 8:30 a.m. and return by 1:30 p.m. Please be sure to pack your child a snack and/or lunch (if you chose this option) that includes non-perishable items in a throw away container/bag that is labeled with your child's name. We will be throwing all disposable containers away so please do not send any containers you want to keep on this day. Please have your child wear comfortable, warm clothes and tennis shoes. For those who purchased filed trip shirts in the beginning of the year, we have them at school. We will put the t-shirts over the child's clothing on Thursday morning. We recommend wearing a long sleeve t-shirt to school that day. If you did not purchase one, please do not worry as it will not affect your child’s ability to go on the field trip. It is just an added safety feature for all of our students so that they are easily identifiable during classroom field trip and events. --Early Dismissal Forms: Please know that we will follow what you indicated on your early dismissal form in the event of any type of early dismissal. If this should change, please notify us immediately. Hour of Code: On Friday, we will be participating in the Hour of Code. This is a super fun activity that promotes computer science and computer programming. The students absolutely LOVE it! 11/17 Last Day to return permission slip and payment for LEGOLAND field trip. Thank you to all those who volunteered! We are limited in the number that can attend each trip. 11/18 RAD DAY! Read All Day Celebration. We will have parent and teachers readers throughout the day. Students may wear pajamas to school, bring a small stuffed animal, and a small blanket/pillow. Students must be able to carry items to classroom independently. 11/18 Lost and Found Items will be donated! Look before it's gone! 11/18 Book Fair Shopping Day for our class. Feel free to meet us meet us in the media center to help select and purchase books during this time. Otherwise, please send money in a CLEARLY marked bag for the Book Fair. Your child will be responsible for keeping track of the bag prior to sWe do have a class Wish List so think about making a book donation to our class or purchase Book Fair Bucks in which we can apply the money towards a purchase for our class library.
